Starts in the Viking Age. Ragnar Lothbrok is an ambitious Norse farmer and warrior who dreams of discovering and raiding the unknown lands to the west. Frustrated by the short-sighted local chieftain, Earl Haraldson, who only wants to attack the poor regions to the east, Ragnar secretly builds a new generation of faster longships. He gathers a crew of loyal fighters, including his fierce shield-maiden wife Lagertha and his jealous brother Rollo. When Ragnar successfully sails to England and brings back great riches, his sudden rise to power changes his community forever. The story follows his journey from a simple warrior to a powerful king, exploring the bloody conflicts, shifting alliances, and rich traditions. His descendants later continue the brutal legacy as they expand their reach across Europe.
