In a future where people control robotic surrogates from the safety of their homes, a detective is forced to leave his isolated existence when murders involving these androids begin occurring. As he investigates the crimes, he discovers a dangerous conspiracy connected to the surrogate technology itself. His journey into the outside world challenges everything he knows about the society he's protected, and threatens to unravel the system that keeps millions confined indoors.
