Story

In China's remote northwest, the oil-boom town of Yumen now stands largely abandoned, its infrastructure decaying. The film weaves together the lives of several inhabitants—a woman seeking companionship, young people restless in their surroundings, and an artist navigating the empty streets. Through fragmented scenes and performance art, the film captures their quiet struggles for connection within this deteriorating landscape, blending documentary observation with narrative storytelling.

Why watch

  • Experimental blend of documentary, drama, and performance art directed by three filmmakers
  • Shot on 16mm film, offering a distinctive aesthetic rarely seen in contemporary cinema
  • Explores themes of urban decay and human isolation in modern China

Good for: Viewers interested in unconventional cinema and artistic documentaries; not a mainstream entertainment film.
