Story
A former English teacher in a snow-bound Belarusian town delivers leaflets door-to-door to make ends meet. His evenings are spent in a cramped apartment with his wife, where they dwell on memories of their son studying in Minsk and rarely visit. Their modest hopes rest on weekly lottery tickets. Director Yuliya Shatun's observational camera follows the teacher's daily routines across bleak urban landscapes, capturing a life shaped by quiet resignation and faded aspirations.
Why watch
- A restrained character study from Belarusian director Yuliya Shatun exploring ordinary lives
- Contemplative drama with an unflinching eye on post-Soviet urban reality
- Intimate portrait of a couple navigating hardship and disconnection
Good for: Viewers drawn to introspective dramas and European cinema; not suitable for children given its somber tone and adult themes.
