Story
This 1984 drama follows ordinary residents of Sheffield as their lives are upended by nuclear conflict. Told through a documentary-style lens, the film traces how a nuclear event reshapes the city and its people, examining both the immediate chaos and the long-term consequences that ripple through society. The narrative centers on working-class families navigating an unimaginable crisis.
Why watch
- Directed by Mick Jackson with a focus on realistic, ground-level perspectives of catastrophe
- Explores science fiction themes through a grounded drama approach rather than spectacle
- English-language 1984 film that remains a significant examination of nuclear war's human cost
Good for: Viewers interested in serious, thought-provoking science fiction drama; not recommended for family viewing due to the film's dark and intense subject matter.
