Story
A British nobleman's death sets off an unusual chain of events when his son Jack inherits the family estate. Jack is an unconventional heir—he believes himself to be a reincarnation of Jesus and behaves in ways that perplex the aristocratic family. Concerned about his mental state and their own interests, the Gurney family launches a series of attempts to either cure him of his delusions or strip him of his inheritance, leading to increasingly chaotic situations.
Why watch
- Peter O'Toole delivers a memorable performance as the eccentric Jack.
- Blends comedy and drama in an offbeat story about class and inheritance.
- Directed by Peter Medak with a distinguished supporting cast including Alastair Sim.
Good for: Viewers interested in unconventional comedies with dramatic elements; not marketed as family viewing.
