Story

Director Miranda Pennell investigates her parents' past connections to an oil company, uncovering letters from a petroleum geologist working in 1930s Iran. Through archived materials and personal reflection, the film weaves together fragmented stories spanning colonial history and individual memory. It examines how narratives shape our understanding of history, exploring the intersection between personal recollection and documented fact.

Why watch

  • Explores lesser-known colonial history through archival research and personal investigation
  • Essay-style documentary format offers a unique perspective on historical storytelling
  • Directed by Miranda Pennell with post-screening discussion included

Good for: Viewers interested in documentary cinema and historical inquiry; not specifically marketed as family content.
