After surviving the Holocaust, a German-Jewish cabaret singer returns to Berlin and undergoes facial reconstruction surgery. When her former husband encounters her without recognising who she is, he involves her in a scheme to access his wife's inheritance. She accepts, setting in motion a tense exploration of identity, betrayal, and survival in post-war Germany.
