Story

This documentary examines the tradition of final meals given to death row inmates, exploring how a practice rooted in historical ritual has become disconnected from its original meaning. The film follows Brian Price, a former chef who prepared over 200 last meals while imprisoned in a Texas penitentiary. Through Price's perspective and conversations with others connected to capital punishment, the film investigates the contradictions between the symbolic intent of this custom and its contemporary application.

Why watch

  • Explores a unique perspective on capital punishment through the lens of food and ritual
  • Features firsthand accounts from those directly involved in the death row system
  • Thought-provoking documentary that challenges conventional understanding of prison traditions

Good for: Viewers interested in documentaries about criminal justice and social practices; not recommended for young children due to the mature subject matter.
