Where to watch Aralkum (2022)

Story

This documentary examines the transformation of the Aral Sea, once a thriving body of water, into a barren landscape. The film explores how large-scale agricultural practices, particularly cotton farming during the Soviet era, reshaped an entire region and displaced its communities. Through observations of those still living along the altered shoreline, the film documents the environmental consequences of human intervention and its lasting impact on local populations.
