Story
Shirin navigates the complexities of balancing multiple identities—her Persian heritage, her bisexuality, and her life as a young creative in Brooklyn. As she attempts to meet the expectations of her family and her community while carving out her own path, she finds herself caught between conflicting worlds. The film follows her journey as she grapples with relationships, self-discovery, and the challenge of authenticity.
Why watch
- Written and directed by Desiree Akhavan, who also leads the cast with a nuanced performance
- A comedy-drama exploring identity and belonging through a fresh, contemporary lens
- Intimate character-driven story set against Brooklyn's cultural backdrop
Good for: Viewers interested in character-focused narratives about identity and relationships; not recommended for family viewing given its mature themes.
